A Static Lullaby Interview

Written By Cary Barnhard

Having made a huge impression on the TASTE OF CHAOS TOUR with The Used and My Chemical Romance, A Static Lullaby guitarist, Dan Arnold took time out from constant touring to talk to Heat Beat.

HB: You had your original drummer leave and then come back after this record. What was that like?

DA: That was actually really hard. One day he told us, "I don't think I want to do this anymore guys." Then left and went to college. It was really hard because we didn't know what to do and we were in the middle of a tour. We got out guitar tech to actually play drums. He played drums in an old band of mine and Nate's (Lindeman, guitar) and he filled in for a long time and was actually part of the band for a while. But, he left after we recorded four songs and we had to find a new drummer, and we got a guy named Jared Alexander who played with us for a while. He's done Death by Stereo records and played on tons of albums. It's just real weird switching drummers so much. But now the original drummer is back.

HB: Does it feel like home again, or does it feel like dating your ex?

DA: Definitely home again!

HB: How did you enjoy The Taste of Chaos Tour?

DA: It was great man! All the bands were really cool and the places were humongous. Met a lot of cool new people. It was really fun.

HB: And there is a DVD coming out from that?

DA: Yeah, I don't really know much about the DVD other than that we're on it….

HB: You experimented more on your new album, "Faso Latido"?

DA: Not experimented like playing experimental music, but experimenting with ourselves to see if we could write better songs, use more guitar effects. Kind of just try to challenge ourselves.

HB: And you used a different producer?

DA: Yeah, we used Lou Giordono. He was awesome! Just a really kickback guy; kind of like a baseball coach. It was pretty funny. He's like a total family man, but he loves making records, so it was really cool. He kind of let us do whatever the hell we wanted to, whenever we wanted to.
